CHRISTMAS 2011

It may have been a break from university, but it was by no means a break for the dedicated athletes of DUAXC who continued to excell over the festive period.

It would be rude not to start with mr president Gareth Phillps who, maybe with an eye on some 400m races in the summer?, ran 37.88 for 300m in an indoor athletics open meetin in Sheffield.

For the majority of the cross country side of the club the focus was on the County Championships! There were some fantastic results too. Jen Walsh was our only County Champion as she stormed to victory in the Yorkshire Championships. Captain Rory Johnson led by example by taking a silver in the Herefordshire champs. Pat Vis also medalled, by finishing 3rd Junior in Merseyside. Earlier in the holiday Mike Grimes took 4th junior in a highly competitive North Eastern race, but would have won if "i adnt got a fookin, bastardin stitch." Alex Robinson wasn't to keen on running the Surrey's due to "a lack of prize money mate," but ran anyway and absolutely beasted it finishing 8th senior in a high quality field. There were good runs too for Jack Hillier who came 13th in Buckingamshire, Rob Torch who was 9th in Yorkshire and Yvonne farrell who was 47th in hampshire.

Self proclaimed race addict Ollie Cook was in action of the holidays too, racing the Ronnie Walker 10k in 38.40 and racing in Newcastle on New years day too. Many of us were involved in local league races. Like, Yvonne Farrell who ran in two of these including a victory in the Lord Wansworth college GP race. Alex Robinson continued his good form by coming 2nd in a Surrey League race. Claudia Conway 42nd in the London city runner met league race and Pat vis came 9th in a midlancs league race. Dan Jenkin and Mike Grimes both took part in and won the Park run over Christmas...the organisers are bracing themselves for more DUAXC dominance this term.
