Page Content Here A summer for DUAXC….
from the absolute carnage of BUCS cross country to the relay heroics in Bedford 2010/2011 was a solid year for DUAXC. The summer season continued in the same vain for many of our athlete’s.
Tom Knight and Marshal Hungwe were the star performers. Tom was present at some of the highest quality events of the summer such as the Welsh championships (in which he took a silver and a bronze) and the Aviva under 20/23 championships in which his scintillating time of 10.75 was a huge PB.
Marshal was in record breaking form setting a new club 400m record at the BUCS championships with a time of 48.65, a time he went on to beat by 8 hundredths of a second in the north of England championships in sports city. Marshal also recorded an impressive 22.7 for 200m.
Staying with the sprint events new president Gareth Phillips spent practically all of the season under the 12 second mark over the hundred meters, but his it was his first race that was his fastest – a P.B. of 11.65. Gareth also had a seasons best of 23.7 in the 200m. Gareth’s co Athletics captain Alice Robins made a timely return from injury to run 13.3 in the 100m.
Some of our longer distance athletes were in fine form over the summer. Congratulations must go to Ed Hickman-Casey and out going cross country captain Jack Hiller for breaking the 2 minute barrier in the 800m. Sub 2 minute stalwart Owen Walpole had a fine summer running under 1.55 no less than 6 times! His fastest being 1.52.35. Mike Grimes and Alex Robinson put in quality performances over all the middle distance events. Mike running 1.56, 3.57 and 8.36 over the 800, 1500 and 3000 and for Alex 2.00, 3.55 and 8.30. Interestingly the combined times of these distances of the two athletes is very close. 14.29 for Mike and 14.25 for Alex. Kat O’mahony was flying the track flag for DUAXC women running an impressive 11.55 over 3k.
Kat was also in impressive form on the roads breaking 20 minutes for 5k. Emily Field-Lucas and Ollie Cook were also in P.B form on the roads. Both set new 10k marks, 44.26 for Emily and 37.48 for Ollie. DUAXC’S longest serving member Ollie also ran 17.35 for 5k (another P.B.) and knocked off an amazing four and a half minutes off his half marathon P.B.
Let’s hope the 2011/2012 season is even better for DUAXC! |
