After crossing the line first at the 2015 Manchester Relays but not being awarded official first place, the men’s team were back with a vengeance in 2016. After succumbing to illness just hours before the race DUAXC’s star athlete (Cameron Field) was replaced by DUAXC’s most budget athlete (Sam Shuttleworth). This reduced the team’s chances of winning significantly however with some big performances, most notably Ross Tennant’s big 8:49 (3k grass), the boys finished in a very impressive 3rd place finally earning themselves some sweatshop vouchers(!).
There was also some big performances in the B team with Ewan South and Alexander Cook both having big runs illustrating the true strength in depth that the men at DUAXC currently have.
Moving on to the Women. DUAXC had two women’s teams at Manchester relays with the A team finishing a very respectable 13th and the B team finishing in 41st position. Individually, there were some impressive runs with Katie Iliffe running the 21st fastest time of the day with 10:52(3k grass).
It looks as if 2016/2017 will be an exciting season for DUAXC with Leeds and Edinburgh to come before Christmas.
