DURHAM UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS AND CROSS-COUNTRY CLUB

On Saturday 15th October Sutton Park Birmingham hosted the National 6 Stage Relays Final and DUAXC has several athletes competing for their home teams. Our sole female runner was Kat O’mahony who was running for Durham City Harriers. The Harriers team  was always going to be strong as it had on first leg Rosie Smith. Rosie (a regular at training) ran the 9th fastest leg of the day. Kat was on hand on the last leg running 18.32 to ensure the Durham team finished a very respectable 27th.

In the men’s race it was a shown down between the might of Hercules Wimbledon, Southport Waterloo A.C. and Durham City Harriers. It was Alex Robinson’s  Wimbledon who came on top finishing 53rd. Alex had a very strong leg, running 18.57 for the 5.9km course gaining three places for his team. 7 places down the field were Patrick Vis’ home team Southport Waterloo. Pat pulled the short straw running a very isolated last leg, yet still managed to gain a place and his 19.34 was very pleasing. Undoubtedly the DUAXC leg of the day was Mike Grime’s for Durham City Harriers. Mike ran an amazing 18.07 to finish an impressive 34th on the first leg. Dan Jenkin was also on the Durham team and his run of 19.39 gained 5 places. The rest of the Durham team was made up of familiar faces from training who helped Mike and Dan bring the team home in 68th.
