Each summer, Durham University Athletics & Cross Country Club hosts MC24; a 24 hour relay event at Maiden Castle, Durham. The event aims to raise awareness and funds for local partner charity RT Projects who provide support to those in the Durham City area with long term health conditions, with a focus on mental health.
Participants range from the serious athlete looking for a new challenge, to the amateur or new runner, and those who don’t run at all, just have an interest in the cause. We aim to promote physical activity as a way to maintain good mental health and what better way to demonstrate this than by bringing together people from all walks of life and uniting them through a positive sporting experience!
In May 2015 the event raised £2,106 for RT Projects, and would not have been possible without a dedicated group of volunteers from DUAXC, who planned, sought sponsorship, promoted, baked, survived a sleepless night, and most importantly RAN in the name of this excellent cause. The money will be used to continue art therapy sessions and excursions for those that the charity works with. Looking to next year, we hope for MC24 to grow bigger and better
